20 Years Combatting Human Trafficking Part 3
In 2005, I was whisked away from Houston to Newport Beach, California for training from the Department of Justice and the Institute of Intergovernmental Research. We spent a week getting trained on Human trafficking. The thing that I most loved was that we were a small group of teams bring put face to face with those who had come before us, the true leaders of the time. We were trained to teach law enforcement (police, judges, prosecutors) and others on the issue of human trafficking and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
I took the training which at the time consisted of a BIG binder, PowerPoint, and videos on CDs. It was so innovative for that period. Note: I still have them.
I took them to LEMIT (the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Center) at Sam Houston State University. This became the foundation of the mandatory training for law enforcement through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement

January 22 is my birthday, National Human Trafficking Awareness Month and the 20th year that I have served victims of human trafficking. For my birthday this year, I'm asking for donations to Redm Inc. I've chosen this nonprofit because their mission is to support me in my work to help trafficking victims. They have helped me serve many victims in 2022 and will do so again in 2023.
They are professionals who raise funds and volunteer services for organizations like mine and pass the money through to them to serve victims of human trafficking. Facebook takes care of the donation processing with no fees. Thank you in advance!
