College Life
Abigail was enjoying her new adult status and some of the freedoms of being an 18-year-old away from home for the first time. However, she was thankful for the dorm rules, and the safety and community of the college campus. It provided an aura of protection for one so young and innocent.
She regularly checked in with her mom, her grandparents, aunts, and a boy she had a brief crush on over the summer. His college plans took him to a school across the country, so they had not developed their relationship. She still giggled when she thought of him. They had only held hands once, but it was special.
Her upbringing was strictly Catholic, and Abigail was saving herself for the person she would eventually marry. Abigail and her roommate talked into the night about their hopes and dreams and descriptions of the type of man they would someday marry.
The Meeting
Abigail was in the cafeteria nearest to the first-year dorm. Contact took place in her second week of school. Little did Abigail know what it would eventually mean and lead to. The contact was simple, yet diabolical. A little boy bumped into her as she was carrying her tray of food from the cashier to the table. She loved kids and her heart went out to this child who seemed lost and upset. The boy told Abigail, that somehow, he had gotten separated from his father and needed help to find his dad. Abigail looked around hoping to see the boy’s father in the crowded cafeteria.
Just as she was going to go to cashier and see if they could make an announcement, a tall husky man walked up and said, “Thank you for finding my son, Billy, I was so worried. My name is Kyle.” Abigail was immediately relieved.
“How do you do, Kyle, my name is Abigail. I am so happy you found us; I was just going to ask for help when you showed up. Billy is safe and sound.”
“Well, I certainly appreciate you helping Billy. Would you do us the honor of eating with us? I am sure Billy would love sitting with you.
Abigail blushed and whispered yes. Kyle told her that it must be fate that they met, and that she was there to come to Billy’s rescue.
Unknown to Abigail, Kyle has been stalking and scoping her out over the past couple of weeks. He purposely instructed Billy to bump into her and tell her that he had gotten separated from his dad and had gotten lost. Kyle told Billy not to say another word.
The Seduction
They found an empty table in a back corner of the cafeteria where other students could not overhear them. With his 5-year-old son sitting by his side, Kyle listened rapturously as Abigail told him of all her hopes, dreams and most importantly to Kyle’s ears – her fears.
Kyle maintained an aura of mystery throughout the conversation. All Abigail knew about him was that he had a son (5-year-old Billy) and that he was part of the military. Kyle was very slick in his deception. Using Billy to interact with Abigail was sheer genius. The little boy’s presence induced Abigail to drop her defenses and create a false sense of compassion for Kyle. Abigail was immediately enthralled by this stranger. Abigail did not see this or realize what was happening. This was a textbook seduction.
Certainly, Abigail did not see through these deceptions. Her heart and her mind were captivated by her ideal image of perfect love. Abigail’s heart fluttered with devotion and adoration. This was the kind of love that Abigail and her roommate spent hours discussing. She felt that God had sent her, her dream lover. Kyle was her Prince Charming, her knight in shining armor all rolled into one. She could not believe how fortunate she felt.
Kyle had set the trap that would eventually enthrall Abigail for the next 4 years. He had done this before, with Billy’s mother and countless others. He laughed to himself about how easy it is to get a girl to believe in fate and love.
Next in his plan was isolation and trauma, then learned helplessness.
